As the professional association for Youth Workers in Western Australia, we have a responsibility to advocate for Youth Work and Youth Workers in WA and across Australia. You can read more about our work below.

VET-FEE HELP

In August 2016, we wrote to the Hon. Liza Harvey MLA Minister for Training and Workforce Development to ask the Department to consider extending the trial of VET-FEE Help for Cert IV Youth Work courses.

SAFE SCHOOLS COALITION

In June 2016 we wrote to Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to express our complete support for the Safe Schools Coalition.

CERT IV FEES

In October 2013 we wrote to the Hon. Donald Redman MLA Minister for Training and Workforce Development to express our concern at the proposed increase to fees for Cert IV Youth Work courses.

WA YOUTH AWARDS

In February 2013 we wrote to Dr Karin McArthur Executive Director Department of Communities to encourage the Department to make changes to ensure that the Outstanding Youth Worker Award at the WA Youth Awards continued to recognise excellence in professional youth work practice.

PL!NG

In October 2012 we wrote an open letter of support for PL!NG, a youth services directory app launched by the Youth Affairs Council of Western Australia.

SCHOOL CHAPLAINCY PROGRAM

In January 2012 we wrote to the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations to request that they consider including a degree in Youth Work as a listed relevant qualification for school chaplains.

CITY OF BELMONT

In October 2011 we wrote to the City of Belmont to express our concern at the closure and outsourcing of their youth work team at short notice. In 2013 the City began a partnership with YMCA Perth to deliver their services to young people aged 11 and over, which we supported.
